Evening all!
So, a new post seems rather overdue! Term two is going well, with a few new exciting things starting.
We now have lessons in orchestration with Richard, which is interesting, but quite mathematical. Pa and Grandad would love it. Literally.
I'm also starting up a male voice choir with one of the pianists in our year, so that's really exciting.
Now, one of the issues that I have been asked to address in this blog is as follows: 'How does one teach composition?'
Now, many composers probably can write a nice Mozart-esque tune (maybe not as well as Mozart, but most people can write a tune anyway). A large part of our education here is simply encouragement and nurturing from our teachers, as well as lots of suggestions about our pieces. Richard also gives me lots of exercises about development of themes, and relevant listening for each of my pieces.
And of course, there's classes on orchestration, polyphonic studies, media music, and music technology.
So I hope that answers that question.
Lots of love to you all! x
